Women and Gender Studies
Women and gender studies WGS is an interdisciplinary field that delves into a critical analysis of issues related to gender and sexuality within the society. The main goal of WGS is to acquaint the students with major issues involving women and gender studies both from a historical and cotemporally viewpoint. WGS program encourages students to zero in on traditional beliefs and understand that gender, race, age, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and nationality are the key aspects of identity.
WGS draws on major academic disciplines, including literature, history, philosophy, sociology, economics, anthropology, among others to examine and analyze cultural beliefs and how they relate to sex, gender, and sexuality. This enables the students to establish the social, political, economic, and cultural organization of people within society today. The program also aims at increasing awareness by comparing contemporary and historical experiences of women and establishing how sex and gender interact with social identities such as race class, and nationality.
