What cultural frameworks of “right” and “wrong” did you grow up with?

I grew up in a middle-class family in the United States. My parents were both college-educated and worked in professional careers. They instilled in me a strong sense of right and wrong, based on the values of honesty, integrity, respect, and compassion. They taught me that it is important to be kind and helpful to others, to stand up for what I believe in, and to always do my best.

These values were communicated to me through a variety of ways. My parents talked to me about them, they modeled them in their own lives, and they held me accountable for living up to them. I also learned about these values through my religious upbringing, my education, and my interactions with others.

How did those influence your interpretation of the BACB Code?

The cultural frameworks of “right” and “wrong” that I grew up with have had a significant influence on my interpretation of the BACB Code. The Code is based on the values of respect for autonomy, beneficence, and justice. These are the same values that were instilled in me by my parents and my community.

I believe that the BACB Code is a valuable guide for behavior analysts. It provides us with a framework for making ethical decisions in our work. I am committed to upholding the Code in my practice and I believe that it will help me to be a more effective and ethical behavior analyst.

Here are some specific examples of how my cultural frameworks have influenced my interpretation of the BACB Code:

Respect for autonomy: I believe that all individuals have the right to make their own decisions about their lives. I will always respect the right of my clients to make their own choices, even if I disagree with those choices.
Beneficence: I believe that it is my duty to do good for others. I will always strive to help my clients in the best way that I can.
Justice: I believe that all individuals deserve to be treated fairly. I will always treat my clients with respect and dignity, regardless of their background or circumstances.

I believe that adhering to the BACB Code distinguishes BCBAs from other “behavioral” providers.

Other behavioral providers may not be held to the same high standards of ethics as BCBAs. The BACB Code provides us with a clear and concise set of guidelines for ethical behavior. By following the Code, we can demonstrate to our clients, our colleagues, and our community that we are committed to providing high-quality, ethical services.

I believe that adhering to the BACB Code distinguishes BCBAs from other helping professionals.

The BACB Code is one of the most comprehensive and rigorous ethics codes in the helping professions. It sets a high standard for ethical behavior for BCBAs.
