Critically assess the role of religion in the ongoing conflict in Israel-Palestine. In order to do so, please address the following questions:
What are the primary factors that have contributed to violence in this region and what role has religion played in fostering ongoing political conflict?
What is the difference between religion and religious fundamentalism? Provide examples to help demonstrate the difference.
Is religious difference, in itself, a direct cause of political violence, or is religion used primarily to justify campaigns of political violence that are motivated by other interests (e.g. economic resources, national liberation, etc.)? Why might this distinction be important when attempting to understand contemporary conflict?
