Topic: Spike Lee’s Bamboozled
Paper details:

For this week’s discussion I would like to ask you to read Chapter 8, ‘Race’, racism and representation and watch Spike Lee’s Bamboozled, then contribute to the discussion thread.

Spike Lee’s satirical film was and remains a controversial film out of which many different meanings might be made. I need help writing my essay – research paper use at least 3 citations from chapter 8 as a basis to form your opinion on this film.

You might want to start by addressing these questions, but I encourage you to develop your own position based on a careful reading of the chapter and a careful viewing of the film.

Bamboozled is clearly a satire and hard-hitting attempt to address some deeply uncomfortable issues. In your own words, what is Spike Lee trying to do here? What are the issues he is trying to address? How does he use language to make his point? How does he use history to make his point? Is this a successful attempt to critique American culture, or does the use of black face and language obscure the satire, as Roger Ebert wrote in this review of the film (Links to an external site.).
