The Five-Step Ethical Decision-Making Process
The professional code of ethics seeks to encourage employees to portray honesty and integrity in the course of fulfilling their job obligations. According to Davis (2016: 2024 – Do my homework – Help write my assignment online), there are many instances where employees have broken this code for one reason or another. As a tech company supervisor, I have been asked to do something that I feel does not align with the professional code of ethics. I am determined to do what is right, but my problem is that my boss does not agree with my interpretation of the code.
Some alternatives can be used to establish the correct interpretation of the code. Hence they will aid in making the right decision to make as it pertains to what I have been asked to do. One of the alternatives is to weigh the pros and cons of doing the deed requested. The other option is to seek the advice of 3 other professionals in the field. The limitation of weighing the pros and cons of doing what I have been asked to do is that I may not be objective when considering and representing facts. Therefore, I may lean more towards doing what I think is right; and my decision may not be right in the real sense. Seeking the advice of other professionals in the field essay may generate positive consequences. For instance, they may help me understand the codes in a new light and hence know whether what my boss is saying is true or not.
Based on the consequences that the two alternatives generate, I would thus seek the advice of the professionals. I would explain to them what my company has told me to do and illustrate to them why I feel why the deed does not align with my professional code of ethics. I would then ask them to provide me with their opinions. To evaluate my decision, I would gauge the opinions of these professionals. If two or more of them agree with my interpretation of the code of ethics, then I would conclude I have made the right decision and hence go on to refuse to engage in the deed that my company has requested.
