Social movements
Social movement occurs when certain groups form an alliance to mobilize other people in order to achieve their social or political goal. Movements make and manipulate meanings. One of the lessons learnt is that Movement frame contentious politics, this happened when Ayodhya military framed an attack on Muslims in order to defend Hindus cultural heritage (Snow and Benford 1992:137). Two, movement define, crystallize and build collective identities, this attack was to recreate a religious identity and define Muslims as outsiders.
When individuals and group of people exceed traditional bounds, they may bring about major changes in social strategy. Media broadcast of the destruction of the Babri mosque in India increased the rate of riots across the country. This is because it lay ground for social movement. Social movements frame specific criticisms that dignify claims, connect them to others and help to produce a united identity. It goes beyond how their goal formed strategically, establish on agreement between contenders and opponents.
The key concept in this topic is the power of movement. Several of the most tactics for social movements depend on the structural fact of mass demonstration, the strike and boycott. By mobilizing, the group can interfere with the smooth operations of the country, convincing other parties to convey. Social movement illuminates solidarity that has shared meaning within certain groups and political cultures and make them feel connected. The larger the social networks the more likely movement tend to spread and be sustained.
I will conclude by mentioning that social movements are resolute , either with the goal of pushing towards giving political voice to those without or a strategy to get people to help them get what they hope to achieve. Social movement seem less about organizational interest and more about individuals seeing an opportunity to bring people to a common goal. Therefore, In order to bring about social change upon the societies, strategies, procedures and context in which the states operates has to change.
