Public Affairs Management
Public affairs involve the relationship between the organization and stakeholders. The stakeholders are groups and individuals interested in the affairs of the organization, such as civil servants, politicians, local communities, customers, shareholders, charity, business groups, and even media. Integrating public affairs brings all these groups together, ensuring the smooth running of the organization. Managers always enhance public affairs by engaging stakeholders to describe vies and policies of the organization concerning public policy matters. The engagement of the stakeholders by the company also helps legislators and policymakers in laying down or amending legislation and policies that are favorable to the organization. Similarly, public affairs offer factual and statistical data and issues that could influence the firm’s ability to operate successfully. Therefore, the paper will design and describe a model demonstrating the importance of integrating public affairs as a management function.
One way of integrating public affairs is through communication strategy. The organization will provide timely and accurate information to the stakeholders. In the digital technology period, the spread of information by the organization needs to be fast to meet the needs of different stakeholders (Dozier, Grunig, & Grunig, 2013). Using social network platforms to disseminate instructions and information ensures the public gets correct information. Communication is essential in upholding trust, long-term, and satisfaction with stakeholders and the public. A successful firm should effectively communicate with its suppliers, clients, shareholders, and other public companies. For every public group (customers, shareholders), a set of information must be created together with the strategy of reaching them most effectively. For instance, If the company is seeking younger people, the high influential message on their website will not be taken well by this public group. Thus, the company should use more entertaining media to reach the youth. Similarly, if the organization targets a high-net-worth shareholder, using a YouTube video may miss the mark for this strategic public. The managers must, therefore, establish popper communication with the stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the company.
Companies have many management functions to assist them in operating at their maximum capacity: development and research, human resources, legal, finances, operations, and marketing. Each of the management functions concentrates on its participation in ensuring the success of the organization. The unique function of public relations is to help the firm establish and uphold a stronger relationship with its primary stakeholders and publics through effective communication (Dozier, Grunig, & Grunig, 2013). When public relations is used strategically, it gives the greatest value to the firm. In a successful organization, all the main managerial functions are joined together by a joint strategy that joins all general vision of the company and a basic set of values. For instance, if the vision of the computer company is to be the low-cost provider of computing power to the highly developing world. From the company’s vision, senior managers establish a set of plans that tackles the areas such as manufacturing footprints, design, marketing, distribution, human resource development, and sourcing. When all the strategies work harmoniously, the company will profitable and steadily develop.
In a nutshell, public relation is an important managerial function that ensures the relationship between the organization, stakeholders, and the public. It ensures the smooth running of operations in the company, enhancing its success. One way of integrating public affairs is through communication strategy. Ensuring effective communication between the organization and the stakeholders.
