Personal Philosophy of Nursing
Purpose: When you can approach your nursing practice with knowledge of your personal
values, beliefs, and philosophy, the care you provide is more likely to be purposeful. This paper
offers the opportunity for you to identify and articulate your personal philosophy, values, and
beliefs that will guide your nursing practice. The paper will be revisited and updated to include
in your e-portfolio prior to graduation.
Student Learning Outcome
1. Establish a professional identity that reflects the core values of nursing and Bon Secours
Mercy Health.
2. Engage in personal and professional development that integrates self-care, emotional
intelligence, leadership development, and the commitment of career-long learning.
Course Objective: Appreciate the concept of evidence-based practice and the dissemination of
nursing knowledge as a critical element of scholarly practice.
Instructions:
