Why did a variety of nationalist movements emerge and spread in the Middle East after World War I? One such example was the rise of Arab nationalism. Were there any others? How does today’s Islamic State’s (ISIS or ISIL) goal of the reestablishment of a caliphate differ from this brand of nationalism?
