Imagine you are adapting Macbeth into a major feature film. You have many choices to make about what kind of movie you are going to produce.
You must decide which genre your film will be (ex. Horror, physchological thriller, tragic romance, political drama, etc.)
You must adapt the play into a new cultural and/or historical context (ie you must choose a different time and place for the story to be set in)
You must choose which actors will be cast in the major roles – Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Banquo, Duncan, and The Witches (include pictures in your adaptation template)
You must choose at least two songs for the movie’s soundtrack and decide at what points in the plot these occur
You must choose a movie tagline that comes from the original play and captures your particular interpretation of Shakespeare’s text
Once you have made these decisions, you will create a promotional poster for the movie that provides a visual representation of your adaptation of Macbeth. The poster can be done by hand or digitally using a program like Photoshop or /> must also include a summary that entices the viewer without revealing any major plot spoilers, as well as submit the attached adaptation template to hand in with your visuals and summary.
Note: A significant portion of your grade is designated to the consistency and appropriateness of your adaptation (see the attached rubric). For example, if you are choosing to set the play in ancient China, then it is unlikely that you would cast Chris Hemsworth or use a Post Malone song for the movie’s soundtrack.
