This week in my clinical experience as a student Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient clinic that sees adult women’s health patients, I have been assisting my preceptor in caring for patients. – – One of the patients I had the opportunity to assist with was a 22-year-old female who had been newly diagnosed with Chlamydia.
In terms of signs and symptoms, the patient reported experiencing abnormal vaginal discharge and abdominal pain. During the assessment, my preceptor and I performed a pelvic examination and collected specimens for laboratory testing, which ultimately confirmed the diagnosis of Chlamydia.
The plan of care for this patient included prescribing an appropriate antibiotic regimen to treat the infection, as well as providing education on safe sex practices to prevent reinfection and transmission to sexual partners. The patient was also advised to return for a follow-up appointment in two weeks to ensure that the infection had been effectively treated.
