Approved topics: Colonial America American Revolution Westward expansion War of 1812 Antebellum South Civil War Reconstruction Instructions: Select one or two of the approved topics that you find interesting. The topics are very broad, which allows you to focus on a particular topic within this broader topic that is of interest to you. For example, a narrower topic on the American Revolution or the Civil War would be to look at why one chose to support one side or another. You will then find an academic journal article that relates to the topic. You can access databases on the Northwest library website to find the article. Each paper should paraphrase the article and explain its importance in studying that particular topic, and its historical significance. You will submit two, 2 page papers in this course. The papers can be on different topics, or the same topic with different journal articles. The paper should be written in Chicago Style. (A link to instructions on Chicago Style formatting can be found in the “Writing Assignment” module.) The article must be cited in Chicago Style formatting. Wikipedia IS NOT ALLOWED!!!!!! Papers should be free of grammatical errors. Every day a paper is late, 10 points will be deducted. (This includes weekends and holidays.) Only hard copies will be accepted. No electronic submissions Only academic journal articles will be accepted.
