CFC 26: Craft activities for young children
Scenario
Craft activities help young children to develop a range of skills. They also support the young child’s development physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually. Health and safety is an important thing to understand when preparing for these activities.

Prepare the following information and present it clearly as a booklet with a front cover sheet.

Task 1 (1.1)
Prepare a list of craft activities suitable for the following aged children:
• babies over 6 months
• young children 1 to 2 years
• young children 3 to 5 years.

Research ideas for craft activities suitable for each of the different age groups (babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers).
Make 3 mindmaps – 1 mindmap for each age group above.

Task 2 (1.2, 1.3, 3.1)
(1.2) Complete 3 planning sheets (see moodle).
Choose and plan 1 activity of your choice (from your mindmap) for each of the above age groups.

(1.3) On your planning sheets state clearly what the benefits of each activity described are for the young child (Think of PILESM).

(3.1) On your planning sheet, write what you think would be the expected learning for the child in each craft activity described.

Task 3 (2.1, 2.2, 2.3)
Please present the following information in table format (see moodle).
You need 1 table for each age group above. (3 Tables linked to your Task 1 mindmaps)
(2.1) Produce a list of the health and safety risks that need to be considered when providing each of the Task 1 craft activities for young children.

(2.2) Identify how to deal with the health and safety risks listed above in relation to your listed Task 1 craft activities.

(2.3) Identify the support a young child may need when carrying out the Task 1 craft activities in relation to health and safety.

Briefly describe each Craft activity in your Task 1 planning sheets. Health and safety risks of activity (2.1) How to deal with the health and safety risks (2.2)) What support might a young child need when carrying out the craft activity in relation to health and safety? (2.3)
