Bullying and its Relationship with Depression among Teenagers
With the increased prevalence of bullying and associated depression among teenagers, studies were conducted to determine this relationship. in a current study conducted in Selangor in Malaysia; random sampling was conducted in two rural schools and three urban daily secondary schools. The study’s main objective was to establish the relationship between bullying and depression among teenagers in Malaysia (Uba, 2010 – Essay Writing Service: Write My Essay by Top-Notch Writer). Different options were adopted to measure depression and bullying; for depression, the Children Depression Inventory was used to screen depressive symptoms in teenagers, whereas for bullying, the Peer Relationship questioners were used among the selected respondents.
Inferential statistics tests were used in this study. Inferential statistics bases its test on hypothetical testing methods. Inferential statistics were vital for the study since it utilizes data from samples from a large population. The data from the samples then conclude the overall population. Schools in Malaysia are a large sample area, random sampling was vital, so it produces results that mirror the rest of the population. In this study, standard deviation, mean, independent t-tests were used to obtain the collusive results. The independent sample test was conducted to determine the gender difference in bullying and depression in teenagers, standard deviation and mean used to analyze the bully scores. The overall correlation was used to compare the results obtained (Uba, 2010 – Essay Writing Service: Write My Essay by Top-Notch Writer).
The finding illustrated that male respondents suffered more bullying and associated depression than their female counterparts. Additionally, the male respondents that suffered the most bullying were from the rural secondary schools compared to those from urban daily secondary schools. The alarming increase in the incidence of bullying and depression has necessitated more studies to research, while nations try to complement strategies to combat bullying among teenagers (Uba, 2010 – Essay Writing Service: Write My Essay by Top-Notch Writer).
