A. Four Questions for Application:

The question of duty:
The passage in Acts 9:36-43 highlights the ministry of Dorcas, a disciple known for her good works and acts of charity towards the poor and needy. As believers, it is our duty to follow the example of Dorcas and extend compassion and kindness to those around us who are in need. This can be done by volunteering at local charities, donating to the less fortunate, or even taking the time to listen to someone who may be going through a tough time. By doing so, we fulfill the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves and reflect the love of Christ in our daily lives.

The question of character:
In the passage, we see the character of Dorcas being described as a disciple who was “always doing good and helping the poor.” As followers of Christ, it is important to develop a similar character of compassion, kindness, and selflessness towards others. This involves a daily commitment to putting the needs of others before our own, seeking to serve rather than be served, and cultivating a heart of humility and grace. By developing such a character, we not only honor God but also become vessels for His love and mercy to be poured out to those around us.

The question of goals:
The passage in Acts 9:36-43 highlights the goal of the early church to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples of all nations. As believers, we too are called to have a similar goal and to actively participate in the Great Commission. This can be done by sharing our faith with those around us, supporting missions and evangelistic efforts, and living out the message of the gospel in our daily lives. By doing so, we play a vital role in fulfilling God’s plan to reconcile the world to Himself and bring salvation to all who believe.

The question of discernment:
In the passage, we see how God used Peter to raise Dorcas from the dead, which led to many people in the surrounding area believing in the Lord. This demonstrates the importance of discernment and listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As believers, we need to cultivate a sensitivity to the voice of God and be willing to step out in faith when He calls us to do something. This may involve taking risks, facing opposition, and stepping outside of our comfort zones. But as we trust in God’s leading and obey His voice, we will see the power of His Spirit working in and through us to accomplish His purposes.
