Explain how you might investigate your research topic (Obesity and Healthy Eating) using an experimental design or a quasi-experimental design. Which approach seems to be the most appropriate for researching this problem?
ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)
                                     CLASSMATE’S POST
My research topic for this class is the opioid epidemic and are the medications and treatment plan effective at establishing long term sobriety. I think either an experimental design or a quasi-experimental design would work for this subject. Personally, I would do an experimental design and place the patients into two separate groups. Group A would be the patients who have an opioid addiction and have attempted sobriety previously. Group B would be patients who this is their first attempt at sobriety with medication, not cold turkey sobriety. Group A would receive methadone, which has a decreased chance of relapse to opioids, but there is a worry that someone could rely on methadone for a long period of time. There are ways to get off of methadone and achieve full sobriety, but it takes time and dedication. As well as allow these individuals to have therapy sessions and meet with others who are like them in hopes of increasing moral. Group B would receive buprenorphine and naltrexone. Achieving full sobriety with these medications is easier, though there is an increased chance at relapsing over time. This group would also get the therapy sessions and meet with other individuals who are like them in hopes of boosting moral. Compare the two groups and determine if there was better success with methadone or buprenorphine and naltrexone with achieving sobriety and maintaining sobriety.
Though, you could do a quasi-experimental design and not worry about who has tried to achieve sobriety before and just split the patient population and assign them Group A or Group B and move forward from there and then look and see if those who have been sober before do better with one medication vs the other or not.
