It’s basically a story showcasing a specific problem and
different tools, techniques, and processes for solving the problem. It includes
some research on the problem and solutions, but is more focused on answering “what” and why.” In particular,
you should notice how the case starts with a specific example. The
case example presents more information to help the reader put the problem into
context. That is the research portion of the case study. You get background
information and additional details which help the readers understand your
examples more completely.
The deliverable for this milestone is a
short description of your topic and example/case. State your topic and explain
how it is connected to risk management processes and practices. Remember to
state your topic in a way which reassures your professor that your
topic is not unmanageably large or uncomfortably small.You should be able to state your overall
topic and specific example/case in 100 words or so.
Think of introduction, body, and conclusion. You should introduce your case in the beginning by
describing the situation, problem, or story. The body contains
more details and may have some aspects of research to prove your points.
The conclusion should contain the lessons learned from the case. This
deliverable should be a Word document using a typical outline format.

What topic should you pick? a topics worthy of

and cases related to information technology. Sometimes the best
approach is to start with a question. What problem would you like to solve?

Think of an interesting question and see if that leads you to a useful topic
for a paper. Your case study may be based on a real or fictitious company
and/or events.
Choose your topic wisely. A topic that is too big is just as difficult as a topic that
is too narrow. A tip from your instructor: Remember, this IS NOT A RESEARCH
PAPER and does NOT have to be a long paper. The body of the paper
(excluding title page, abstract, and references) can be six to seven pages long
if you choose a relatively small topic to investigate. Choose
your topic wisely! “Risk Management in Business” is way
too big. Narrow that down to a specific organization or type of problem
associated with RISK MANAGEMENT.
Title and
Reference Pages
The reference page is a list of your sources with enough
information about each source so that readers can locate them if needed. The

Organize
your main points so that each one supports the purpose of your paper.
Guide the reader from point to point so that things flow smoothly.
Finish
strong. Either state your conclusions in unambiguous terms or ask
thought-provoking questions for the reader to ponder and perhaps
investigate further. Cases often finish with questions, but you can
finish with a conclusion. Either way is fine, but pick one.
Cite your
sources in the body of the paper and then have the complete reference to
the source on your reference page.
Be clear
and concise, but be complete. This is a difficult balancing act.
Basically, a business audience needs good, solid information, but the
audience doesn’t have a lot of time. Your job is to organize the
information in a clear and understandable way for your classmates and
perhaps even managers at your company.
